Drawing Down the Muse: Encountering the Unconscious through Expressive Writing is a workshop with poet Ivy Ireland, and will be followed by a free Open Reading featuring Ivy Ireland. Please register for the Open Reading to attend, and indicate in the booking process if you would like to do a reading of your work.
Drawing Down the Muse: Encountering the Unconscious through Expressive Writing – 10am-12.30pm
Join poet Ivy Ireland as she explores methods of integrating unconscious elements of the psyche into the process of writing poetry. The focus of this workshop will be on practical writing exercises using automatic and expressive writing techniques, while also looking at examples of artistic inspiration in the work of prominent poets.
Open Reading with Ivy Ireland – 1pm-2.30pm
Following the workshop there will be an open mic reading session featuring Ivy Ireland. Workshop participants are encouraged to join the open reading and share what they learned, however all poetry lovers are also invited to attend and watch (registrations required).
Ivy Ireland is the author of Incidental Complications (2007), Porch Light (2015) and The Owl Inside (2020). Ivy’s literary awards include the Australian Young Poet Fellowship, the Harri Jones Memorial Prize, the Thunderbolt Prize, the Newcastle Poetry Prize local award, and she was runner-up in the UC International Poetry Prize in 2019. Ivy completed her Ph.D. in Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle and her poetry, essays and reviews have been widely published in journals and anthologies such as The Anthology of Australian Prose Poetry, Cordite, Overland, Mascara, Going Down Swinging, The Blue Nib, Blue Dog and Plumwood Mountain. She is a reviewer for Cordite Poetry Review.
